The Catholic Priest of Otukpo, Diocese, Rev. Fr. Anthony Adikwu who was kidnapped by gunmen has been released.
The priest was abducted last week Thursday and was in captivity for six days.
Benue State Police Public Relations Officer, (PPRO), SP Catherine Anene, confirmed that the priest has been released.
Rev Fr. Anthony Adikwu, the Parish Priest of St. Margaret’s Parish, Ajegbe Awume, in Ohimini Local Government Area of the state, was kidnapped last Thursday night, June 16, 2023, in the Parish.
Anene said on getting the information Friday morning, the command immediately swung into action and deployed men to the area
She said that Commissioner of Police, Mr. Julius Okoro, immediately deployed a team of operatives from Operation Zenda, Special Joint Task Force Unit, led by its Commander, CSP Justine Gberidyer to the area.
“Our team have been on serious manhunt for the hoodlums. It was the pressure mounted on the kidnappers by our team that made them to release the priest.
“They released him out of pressure we mounted on them”.
The kidnap of the priest was the second time in one week.
Three mourners in Gwer West Local Government Area of the state, were kidnapped after their vehicle was attacked on Tuesday, June 13, 2023.
The woman among the victims was rescued,while two others reportedly escaped from their abductors
