A group, under the aegis of Benue Coalition for Human Rights Protection, (BCHRP), has cautioned Benue people and organizations against challenging Governor Hyacinth Alia’s decision on the civil service in the state.
The Coordinator of the group, Jimmie Adzande, who stated this in a statement, while reacting to the major shakeup in the state civil service said it is in the interest of the Benue civil servants that the decision stays.
Alia, had in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Kula Tersoo, quashed all last minutes appointments into the State Civil Service made by the outgone administration from May 2022 to date.
He also directed, among others, that “All those who have retired but are yet to vacate their offices or duty post either because of extension or contract appointment are to proceed on retirement forthwith.”
Reacting, Mr Adzande said “This, we think, is with best intentions and should not be challenged by any person or organisation that has the interest of the state at heart.”
He stated that even though the affected persons are Benue citizens, the last minutes recruitment the Samuel Ortom government was not done in consideration with the state of the civil service in Benue.
While he called of citizens to be calm, the coalition coordinator expressed confidence that Alia government will do something significant and appropriate for the wellbeing of all Benue citizens.
“At best, this is not unexpected because there were irregularities in the last minute massive recruitment in the state civil service.
“Government must respect the fundamental human rights of citizens, but the citizens must also understand that there is due process in every process,” he added.
