The governorship candidate of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) in the just-concluded gubernatorial election in Benue State, John Tseayo, has lamented what he described as the entrenchment of moneybag-politics culture in Nigeria.
Tseayo who addressed newsmen on the outcome of the 2019 elections in the state posited that rather than work and reap the fruits of one’s labour, a culture of money-bag politics has been entrenched in the nation’s polity.
He particularly accused the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) of engaging in vote-buying during the elections.
“What we saw at the poll further tells me that precedence of bad governance has been set so that once one is elected governor tomorrow, he must not necessarily consider service to the people above primordial issues like zoning and money sharing for electoral gains.
“More worrisome is that the people of the state are further impoverished in their humanity to the level they are made to harass one another and sell their dignity and four years of their lives for paltry sums that would haunt their consciences.”
The APGA governorship flag bearer, however, noted that, in spite of this sad development, the rescue mission of the party in the state as enshrined in its manifesto remained alive.
“We shall not stop in getting our message of hope and revitalisation of our God-given state to the people. By the way, the people have shown that if given a free chance, they will choose those they wish to take the lead among them.”
He commended all those who identified with the party in the course of consultations and campaigns up to the poll for their conviction that the party represents new thinking in governance that was midwived to be about the people, for the people and by the people.
