The interim leadership of the Labour Party (LP) in Bayelsa State has expressed optimism over the rebirth of the party and readiness to take its rightful place in the political landscape of Bayelsa.
The deputy-national women leader, South- South, Stephanie Ebitari Ekpebulu, stated this in Yenagoa during the inaugural meeting of the state party’s interim leadership and the leadership of the workers’ union.
The inaugural meeting was convened to introduce the interim leadership to the workers’ union ahead of the ward, local government, and state congresses of the party.
Ekpebulu, who commended the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) for their unwavering support through the Political Commission, the political arm of the workers’ union, stated that the welfarist ideology of the LP and its commitment to social justice have contributed to the membership drive among Nigerians.
While applauding the remarkable work of the Political Commission in galvanizing support for the party, she reiterated that with the structures on the ground, the LP is set to return to the ideals of the founding fathers.

Ekpebulu commended the national leadership of the party, led by Senator Nenadi Esther Usman, for the inspiring leadership that has steered the party back to the path of progress.
The State Chairman of the NLC, Mr. Barnabas Simon, in his remarks implored that all stakeholders of the party should be carried along in decision-making to ensure that the aspirations of the party in Bayelsa State are met.
Mrs Patricia Eduyemiekumo, a former LP Presidential council member, and Comrade John Ndiomu, former NLC Chairman and POLCOM patron, in their remarks enjoined the workers union to rally support for the interim leadership.
The interim Chairman, Dr. Zuonaki Ongodiebi, in his address, assured the leadership of the NLC/TUC of frequent consultation in party affairs to ensure that all stakeholders are on the same page.
