The people of Legtugbene in Ekeromor Local Government Area have deserted the community over a military operation aimed at recovering seven stolen rifles hidden in the community.
The arms were stolen from seven naval personnel who were kidnapped by some militants operating from the community.
According to investigations, the seven naval personnel were kidnapped from the Bonny creeks in May and moved to the community before they were eventually rescued by the Joint Task Force.
Findings indicated that a probe launched by the military confirmed that the rifles, which were hidden somewhere in the community are being used by militants to terrorise people on the waterways prompting the hierarchy of the sanction the operation to recover the rifles and arrest the culprits.
Saturday Sun gathered that the Joint Task Force invaded the community and succeeded in arresting two of the suspected militants hiding in the community.
A follow-up visit by some elders of the community and Nigerian Navy (NNS Soroh) confirmed that people have been living in fear because of the nefarious operation of the militants.
Chief Alex Aboitu, who said he had to relocate to Warri, Delta State over the activities of these militants, said they have destroyed the peaceful nature of the community.
