The Yusuf Maitama Tuggar Foundation on Saturday flagged off the distribution of food items worth millions of naira to residents observing the Ramadan fasts across the 20 local government areas in Bauchi State
The items distributed included bags of rice, and sugar, and cartons of spaghetti, macaroni and groundnut oil
The Director General of the foundation, Muhammadu Bello Tukura, explained to journalists that the items were donated by friends and associates of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amb Yusuf Maitama Tuggar.
Tukura disclosed that businessmen and marketers in the state were the ones who procured and supplied the items in bid to promote local business.
He said that the items were for every citizen of the state irrespective of political affiliation, stressing, however that All Progressives Congress (APC) members would be given preference.
He explained that during the last Christmas and New Year celebrations, the foundation extended similar gestures to Christians across the state in the spirit of the season.
He added that the foundation also considered the traditional institution as key players in the peaceful coexistence of the people of the state so they had been included in the distribution.
In his brief remarks, Personal Assistant to the Minister, Mohammed Tilde, commended the DG of Tuggar Foundation, Bello Tukura for being a dependable ally to Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar saying such people were very rare to find.
Some of the LGA coordinators of the Tuggar Foundation who spoke to journalists, expressed happiness at the gesture, assuring that they would go back to their respective areas to deliver the items.
