The Concerned Elders Forum of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Bauchi State has lambasted the People Democratic Party (PDP) in the state for opposing the declaration by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of the state governorship election as inconclusive.
State Chairman of the Forum Alhaji Yarima Aliyu Giade stated this during a press conference at the APC Secretariat in the northeastern state.
Giade said that some well-placed individuals in the state, out of desperation for power, have been painting the actions of the electoral body as wrong, saying their aim is to create disaffection among citizens.
He said that as concerned elders in the state, they will not condole inciting utterances made by some politicians which are capable of causing the breach of peace enjoyed by the people of the state since the inception of the APC-led administration.
“We equally find it unfathomable for Mr Yakubu Dogara, with due respect to his exalted position as the Speaker of the House of Representatives, to constitute himself into a court and begin to declare the action of the electoral body as a breach of law and make pronouncements on facts which are neither investigated or adjudicated upon,” Giade said.
“How could Dogara have concluded that the thugs that were said to raid the Tafawa Balewa collation centre are agents of a disclosed principal in the person of the incumbent governor, while many others are saying that the thugs belong to him.”
He alleged that the Speaker concluded on the action that INEC ought to have taken in the case of Tafawa Balewa results, saying that his action was aimed at abusing the minds of the public towards a wrong direction.
He commended the committee sent in from Abuja to investigate the circumstances of the cancellation of the Tafawa Balewa local government results, pointing out the developmental was in tandem with electoral law, considering that Bauchi State was not the only state where the election was declared inconclusive by INEC.
He called on the people of the state to come out en mass and vote for the APC during the supplementary elections, urging them remember what he suggested was their unpleasant conditions under an PDP administration.
