Over 40 bandits, suspected to be herdsmen, stormed Efab Global Estate in Idu, Abuja, in the early hours of Wednesday, May 21, injuring five security guards with machetes and firing gunshots. The three-hour attack, which targeted six houses, left residents terrified, with one forced to transfer N700,000 and several phones stolen.

Bola Adurashkin, Chairman of the Estate’s Board of Trustees, told The Sun that the assault began around 2:00 a.m. and lasted until past 4:00 a.m. “Residents were too scared to call the police initially, hiding under beds to protect themselves,” he said.

The estate’s Security Committee alerted the police around 4:25 a.m., but the bandits had fled by the time officers arrived, guided by uninjured security guards. “I’ve lived here for 14 years, and we’ve never faced an attack of this scale,” Adurashkin added, noting the bandits appeared to be Hausa-speaking Nigerians.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Harrison Orurruo, from the Life Camp Area Command, conducted an on-site assessment and assured residents that the perpetrators would be apprehended.

“We responded within 25 minutes of the 4:00 a.m. alert, but the bandits had left. We’ve gathered forensic evidence and will bring them to book,” he said.

Orurruo proposed establishing a police post within the estate, which spans over 400 buildings, in collaboration with estate management to prevent future attacks. He emphasised, “Security is everybody’s business.”
