Gunmen suspected to be bandits on Saturday ambushed a military troop at Zurak Kampani community in Wase Local Government Area of Plateau State and inflicted injuries on scores.
It was learned that the bandits invaded the community when residents were carrying out transactions in the market. This triggered fears as people ran in different directions for safety.
The soldiers repelled the bandits after a gun battle which restored calm in the area. The Zurak Kampani community is located 100km away from the council headquarters.
Military Information Officer and spokesman of the Operation SAFE HAVEN, Major Ishaku Takwa, confirmed the ugly incident, and said no soldier was killed during the incident.
He noted that the troop would continue to work for peace and safety of the people as normalcy had returned to the area.
However, a resident of the area, Abdullahi Usman, said one of the soldiers who were stationed in the area was killed and some injured.
He expressed gratitude to the military, saying their timely intervention in repelling the attackers saved another bloodbath in the area
Usman lamented that Wase Local Government Area had being experiencing banditry activities leading to the destruction of lives and property while several households had fled their homes for fear of being kill.
