Vice President Kashim Shettima on Thursday led a Federal Government delegation to Yola, Adamawa State, to condole with the family of the late elder statesman and former governor of old Gongola State, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur.
Shettima, who conveyed President Bola Tinubu’s condolences to the family, described the deceased as a distinguished statesman whose contributions to entrepreneurship, public service and national development would remain part of Nigeria’s history.
According to a statement issued by his media aide, Stanley Nkwocha, the Vice President first visited the palace of the Lamido of Adamawa, Alhaji Muhammadu Barkindo Aliyu Musdafa, where he paid homage to the traditional ruler and commiserated with him over the death of Tukur, the Tafidan Adamawa.
He thereafter proceeded to Tukur Lodge, the family residence of the deceased, where he delivered the President’s message of condolence.
According to Shettima, although the death of the elder statesman was a painful loss to his family and the nation, his life of service, enterprise and devotion to duty should also be celebrated.
He urged members of the Tukur family to remain united and uphold the legacy of peace and service left behind by their patriarch.

The Vice President also commended Governor Ahmadu Fintiri for the support extended to the bereaved family during the period of mourning.
Responding on behalf of the family, the Secretary to the Adamawa State Government and son of the deceased, Awwal Tukur, thanked President Tinubu for the message of comfort.
Awwal also expressed appreciation to Shettima and the Federal Government delegation for identifying with the family at a difficult moment.
Tukur, who died at the age of 90, had a career spanning public administration, politics, industry and pan-African business leadership.
He served as Governor of the former Gongola State and later became National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
