Nigerian Afrobeats artist Adedoyin Tolulope Adepoju, popularly known as BadboyTrue, has released his first official single for the year, tilted Away.
The track was officially dropped on December 19, marking a fresh chapter in the singer’s evolving musical journey.
Signed to 20s Melodies Ltd, BadboyTrue described the new single as a deeply personal project rooted in real-life experiences.
According to him, Away is a powerful blend of emotion, rhythm and relatable storytelling.
“I make music from real-life stories, emotions you can feel and situations you can relate with. Away reflects where I’m at right now—focused, mature and hungry for more. It was inspired by ambition, moments of love, betrayal and self-belief. It’s a song born from real experiences,” he said.
The singer also reflected on his earlier project, Get Familiar (GF), which he described as an introduction to his artistry and personality.
He noted that the body of work explored themes of love, struggle, ambition and personal growth, capturing different chapters of his journey both as an artist and as a human being.
On the issue of family support, the Afrobeats singer revealed that his parents were initially hesitant about his music career, a reaction he says is common among many African parents.
However, their stance changed over time. “After seeing how consistent I am with my craft and the positive results, their support grew. Now, they fully stand behind my dream,” he added.
