The recently concluded Dratech International Conference 2024 ended on a high note as Mr. Babalola Ayodele, a seasoned communications and public affairs professional, was named the winner of the Dratech Media and Technology Leadership Award 2024.
The recognition highlights his exceptional contributions to responsible communication, public trust, and digital transformation within Nigeria’s institutional landscape.
Ayodele’s selection was among the most anticipated of the evening. Out of eleven nominees in the category, he emerged as one of the top five recognized for their innovation, leadership, and measurable public impact. His professional journey tells a story of steady progress, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to communication that builds bridges between government institutions and the people they serve.
Mr. Babalola Ayodele’s career began in the newsroom, where he built a reputation for accuracy, empathy, and storytelling depth. At Aso Radio 93.5 FM, Abuja, he worked as a reporter and presenter, covering civic and social topics that connected citizens with community issues. His ability to engage diverse audiences with clarity and relevance quickly made him a trusted voice in broadcasting.
He later joined Africa Independent Television (AIT) as part of the Moneyline with Nancy team, where he handled research, coordination, and content production for programs that explored national economic policies and financial governance. These formative years in journalism honed his understanding of public communication and gave him the skills to simplify complex subjects for mass audiences.
Ayodele’s transition into government communication marked a major turning point. At the Office of the Vice President of Nigeria, he worked as part of the social media and content team, managing narratives that communicated the Vice President’s programs and countered misinformation with factual clarity. His professionalism in handling sensitive public information earned him respect among senior communication strategists.
Soon after, he became Head of Content at the Buhari New Media Centre (BNMC), where he led a creative team that shaped campaign narratives, produced multimedia content, and coordinated communication across several states. His leadership during this period strengthened message discipline, improved national media engagement, and showcased his ability to manage communication at scale.
At Phoenix Relations Limited, Ayodele advanced into corporate communication leadership, serving as Director of Operations and Communications. He oversaw strategic media initiatives, stakeholder engagement, and process improvement for both private and public clients. His work emphasized innovation and operational discipline, aligning communication goals with measurable outcomes.
Currently, Mr. Ayodele serves as the Strategic Technical Adviser to the Director-General of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC). His role in this national institution has been transformational.
He developed and implemented a comprehensive communication strategy that increased NIMC’s visibility, strengthened stakeholder relationships, and improved citizen engagement with Nigeria’s digital identity system. His work also involved crisis communication management, speechwriting, and content development that enhanced the Director-General’s public interface.
One of his major accomplishments was leading the NIMC Public Trust and Digital Identity Communications Program, which redefined how the Commission interacted with the public. The initiative focused on transparency, accurate reporting, and digital literacy, helping citizens better understand the importance of national identity systems. Under his coordination, media coverage grew by over 50 percent, while digital engagement doubled.
His ability to combine diplomacy, technology, and media principles has helped rebuild trust in one of Nigeria’s most critical public institutions.
Babalola Ayodele’s academic background reflects both intellectual discipline and strategic foresight. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Mass Communication from Sikkim Manipal University, India, and a Master’s degree in International Affairs and Diplomacy from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. These qualifications provided him with a balanced understanding of global communication systems and diplomatic engagement.
He also holds professional certifications in Project Management, Human Resource Management, Customer Service Relations, Event Management, and Equity Research Analysis, alongside an Executive Diploma in International Diplomacy and Protocol. Ayodele is an Associate of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) and a Member of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ).
These credentials underline his belief that effective communication requires both technical knowledge and ethical grounding.

Ayodele’s achievements at NIMC, his earlier innovations at BNMC, and his steady influence across government and corporate communication made him a deserving recipient.
Over the years, Mr. Ayodele has earned a reputation as one of Nigeria’s most thoughtful communication strategists. His work demonstrates that communication is more than messaging; it is a tool for inclusion, transparency, and reform.
In his post-award remark, he reflected, “True communication leadership is not about visibility but about clarity. It’s about ensuring people understand, participate, and trust the process.” That principle continues to guide his approach to communication in public service.
His story reminds emerging professionals that the power of communication lies not in noise, but in purpose, structure, and impact.
