Ayamelum decries being left out as Anambra govt approves more roads

The people of Ayamelum Local Government Area of Anambra State have raised the alarm that the state government has sidelined  their communities in the recent award of roads contracts despite having a  long list of roads begging to be constructed or rehabilitated.

Youths of the area who felt that the government action  contradicts the promise made by the Governor Chukwuma Soludo, during his campaign in the area said they will not forget to reciprocate accordingly when another election time comes again.

Speaking to Daily Sun on the development, Mr. David Obodoeze, one of the youth leaders said that it will be ideal if the government remembers the Local Government and the area because the rainy season almost cut the area off from the other part of the state. “If government fails to remember us in this, then what is the sense of belonging. How can we pay back to the government during the next elections? he asked.

A release signed by the Anambra State Commissioner for Information, Mr. Paul Nwosu stated that ANSEC also approved the release of the sum of N3 billion, for the construction of Awkuzu-Umunya Road in Oyi LGA, Anambra State, measuring six point six-one kilometers. The contract was awarded to Lebtech Construction Limited with a completion period of twelve months.

Furthermore, the release of the sum of N2 billion, was approved by ANSEC for the construction of Owelaja Obosi Flood Control Infrastructure in Idemili-North LGA, Anambra State, and the contract was awarded to Stefanutti Stocks Hapel with a completion period of 18 months.

The sum of N1.1 billion was also released for the reconstruction of some selected roads and Silas Works Road to Creek Road measuring 2.240 kilometers in Onitsha, approved and awarded to Rojel Nigeria Limited, with a completion period of five months.

According to the release, ANSEC equally approved the release of over N1.1 billion, for the reconstruction of some selected streets in Onitsha among which include; Ziks Avenue, Ozomagala Street and Link Road of 3.253 kilometers. The contract was awarded to Grandstar Limited with a completion period of six months.

It also states that the release of over N1.35 billion, was approved for the construction of Amawbia internal roads, Lot 1 of 3.58 kilometer, Awka-South Local Government Area, and the contract was awarded to Daniels Construction Limited with a twelve months completion period.

ANSEC approved the release of over N1.287 billion, for the reconstruction of some selected roads including Moore Street/Iweka Road in Onitsha. The contract was awarded to Zhongtian Construction Nigeria Limited with a completion period of nine months.
