In order to give Anambra State capital Awka a facelift, the state government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with real estate developers in the state.
The move is meant to assist government in its vision of transforming the state capital into a smart mega city.
The duo of Mark Okoye and Prof. Offornze Amucheazi, Managing Director, Anambra State Investment Promotion and Protection Agency (ANSIPPA), and Commissioner for Lands respectively, signed the agreement on behalf of the state government at a ceremony in Awka, recently.
Speaking during the ceremony, Okoye said the pact is in line with Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s vision of building a smart mega city and transforming investment, as well as the state’s economic landscape.
He revealed that the firms were selected after numerous proposals and rigorous screening processes, while also charging them to ensure quality, with clear precision and accuracy.
The Commissioner further explained that the governor had directed them to reach out, engage and work with the private sector to attract investment to the state.
He added that the project, aside giving the state capital a new aesthetic glow will also provide local content to artisans in the state.
He said,“For the last four months, we’ve had over 60 real estate proposals with detailed analysis. The governor insisted on three-year deadline as long as the firms are competent to deliver quality jobs.”
The state government has also promised to settle all boundary issues in the state, stressing that such matters have been hampering development in the state.
“A situation where one will suffer to put up a structure that cost him years to save, one will all of a sudden pull it down just in a day,” he said.
He said all those having boundary issues should be patient as plans are underway to do boundary adjustment within the shortest time.
