Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) recently conferred honorary doctoral degrees on Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, and Austrian investor, Sir Bernd Bergmair.

Governor Mbah was awarded an honorary doctorate in Business Administration and Corporate Governance, while Sir Bernd Bergmair received the same honor in recognition of his significant contributions to investment, industry, and innovation.

ESUT Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Aloysius-Michaels Okolie, highlighted the university’s commitment to technological advancement and its alignment with the vision of its founders. He stated that the honorary degrees were awarded to individuals whose achievements and contributions to sustainable human capital development align with the university’s goals.

Governor Mbah expressed gratitude for the honor and pledged to continue supporting ESUT’s growth. He announced a N50 million grant to Prof. Cyprian Mgbachi to further develop his innovative cooking stove-cell phone battery charger. Additionally, Mbah unveiled plans for a Center for Experiential Learning at ESUT and committed over N1.6 billion to infrastructure development.

Sir Bernd Bergmair, a former Goldman Sachs banker, donated N52 million to support Prof. Mgbachi’s research. He also partnered with Governor Mbah to commission a state-of-the-art 140KW solar PV system, providing 24/7 off-grid power to the Faculty of Management Sciences.

This collaborative effort between the Enugu State government, ESUT, and international investors demonstrates a strong commitment to education, innovation, and sustainable development in Nigeria.
