Members of the Society for West African Internal Audit Practitioners (SWAIAP) have been charged on professionalism. Chief Internal Auditor of Dangote Sugar Refinery, Babafemi Gbadewole, and others gave the charge at the annual induction and fellowship award with the theme: “Internal auditing, tool for preventive anti-corruption and anti-fraud strategies and code of ethics agent.”
Gbadewole, who represented his company’s managing director on the occasion where SWAIAP inducted 25 new members, called on auditors in the country to do their job diligently and continue to uphold professionalism. He advised the new inductees and other members of the association to continue to uphold the ethics of the profession, do their work diligently and always put the country’s interest above their personal interest.
President of the association, Patrick Onwura Nzechukwu, in his address, said one of the reasons was to mobilise practitioners in the fight against corruption.
Nzechukwu commended the new inducted members for deeming it fit to join the association. “As a nation and country, there is a need for us to change our approach to fighting corruption, fraud and waste. “There is a lot of waste in the country, establishing anti-corruption organisations by the government alone will not stop waste and corruption, therefore, there must be proactive measures from all the stakeholders,” he said.
