From Paul Orude, Bauchi
The Acting National Chairman of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Ambassador Aliya Damagum, has said that the exit of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar from the party was not unusual, saying they were still expecting him back in the opposition party.
“Well it is expected because this is not the first time and I don’t think it will be the last time, we will still expect him any moment from now,” Damagum said during an encounter with journalists at the Government House, Bauchi, on Friday.

Speaking on the exit of Atiku and other party stalwarts from the PDP, Damagum predicted that the resignation of its 2023 presidential candidate was normal, adding that the party was expecting Atiku to eventually return to the party. Atiku had resigned from the party on Wednesday via a letter addressed to the Chairman of Jada 1 Ward in Jada Local Government Area of Adamawa State, citing irreconcilable differences as the reason for his departure.
He stated that the PDP had derailed from the original vision of the founding fathers in 1998 and had been unable to amicably resolve the crises that bedeviled it.
