Fresh off a confidence-boosting performance on the global stage, Nigerian sprint sensation Favour Ashe is aiming to translate his recent success into gold at the upcoming CAA Senior Athletics Championships in Accra, Ghana.
The 100m specialist is coming off a strong outing at the World Athletics Relays Championship, where he played a key role in helping Team Nigeria secure qualification for the 2027 World Athletics Championships in China.
The continental championship, which begins on May 12, is expected to attract over 1,000 athletes from about 50 countries, setting the stage for a highly competitive showdown.
In Gaborone, Ashe was instrumental in Nigeria’s 4x100m mixed relay success, a performance that also earned the country qualification for the inaugural World Athletics Ultimate Championship scheduled for September in Budapest.
With attention now firmly on Accra, Ashe has made his ambitions clear.

“I’m in good shape, and my goal in Accra is to win gold in the 100m and also help the team secure gold in the relays,” he said.
Reflecting on the outing in Botswana, Ashe expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance, noting that pre-competition criticism served as motivation.
“Before the championship, it was ‘Ashe this, Ashe that, Ashe is finished,’ but I’ve proven my worth,” he stated. “I give all the glory to God for the results we achieved.”
The sprinter added that negativity from some quarters did not derail his focus or that of his teammates, but instead fueled their determination to deliver on the big stage.
With renewed confidence and strong momentum, Ashe now heads to Ghana aiming to cap his resurgence with continental success and silence his critics.
