Molokwu Azikiwe, son of the late Rt. Hon. Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe and Prof Uche Azikiwe has joined the prestigious ranks of Ndi-Ichie in Onitsha, Anambra State. 

The nuclear family of the revered Owelle of Onitsha is in top celebration mood as invitation cards to the Mmacha Nzele for Akwue Isama Onicha Ado N’idu have been distributed to friends and well-wishers far and near. 

Feeling deeply grateful to God and the Obi of Onitsha in Council is the mother of Molokwu, Prof Uche Azikiwe, wife of an Ichie and now mother of an Ichie. Both roles united in one woman is usually a remarkable favour in the history of Onitsha.

Born in 1973, Molokwu attended the University of Nigeria Secondary School, Nsukka before proceeding to Lincoln University, PA, USA, to study Accounting. 

At Lincoln, he was a member of the varsity soccer team, a senator representing international students at the Student Government Council and an active member of the Business Club.  

He received numerous awards such as the Dean’s List, Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges and the Galadima Dagazau Award for the graduating Nigerian student with the highest GPA.

Three and a half years later, with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting, Mr Azikiwe enrolled into the Master of Business Administration (MBA) programme at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, IL, USA commencing in August 1994.  

He spent two years at Illinois and graduated on May 11, 1996 with an MBA in International Business Management and Marketing. Consequently, Molokwu has had 26 years professional working experience overseas and in Nigeria. 

Currently, Mr Azikiwe, rising through the ranks, is the Director, Budget and Treasury at ECOWAS Commission, Abuja. 

As Akwue Isama Onicha Ado N’idu, Molokwu Azikiwe would be expected to carry out assignment on the instructions of the Obi in Council, including representing the Obi nationally and internationally.

Mr Azikiwe belongs to many professional and social organizations, including the Nigerian Institute of Management, Institute of Management Consultancy, U.K. Project Management Institute, USA etc. He is a good sportsman, a devout member of the Church of Nigeria Anglican Communion – Knight of St. Christopher (KSC) and a member of the Ancient Agbalanze Society of Onitsha – Ojinnaka. 

His hobbies include travelling, basketball, soccer, American football and reading (biographies and autobiographies).  

He is happily married to Juliet and they are blessed with four lovely children namely: Nnamdi, Chukwuzubelum, Somadina and Zinachielokalum.
