Nottingham Forest are still battling over the fitness of injured Nigeria international, Taiwo Awoniyi ahead of their opening game of the new Premier League season against Mike Arteta’s side at Emirates Stadium.
According to reports from England, the all action striker is expected to undergo a late fitness test to ascertain his readiness for the game.
Forest head coach, Steve Cooper, disclosed that Awoniyi who just resumed training after recovering from an ankle injury would have to pass a late fitness test to feature against Arsenal.
“Felipe, for sure. Moussa is just about returning to training, and so is Taiwo, so the game probably comes too soon for them. He is eager to play (Awoniyi) and I hope we can play him,” Cooper told NottinghamshireLive.
“Tommorow, the club’s medical staff will make a final assessment on whether he can play or not.”
The Foxes would miss the one time Liverpool player if he fails to regain fitness before the game.
It would be recalled that Awoniyi played a vital role for Steve Coopers’s side last season as they narrowly escaped relegation to the Championship.
He netted 6 goals in his last four Premier League games for the Nottinghamshire-based club including a brace against Chelsea and a goal against Arsenal.
The 25-year-old ended the season as the club’s top scorer in the Premier League with ten goals to his name.
Chelsea old boy Ola Aina and Emmanuel Dennis are seemingly in contention to be named in the matchday squad to face Arsenal.
