A detachment of soldiers deployed on a peacekeeping mission to Lamurde Local Government Area of Adamawa State has reportedly opened fire on a group of peaceful protesters, killing at least nine persons, including five women.
The victims were part of a larger group of residents demonstrating over what they described as government failure to protect them from a series of recent, relentless attacks on their communities.
According to information obtained by Daily Sun, the women unarmed and chanting for help had taken to the streets to demand decisive government action after multiple incursions by unidentified assailants left several villages vulnerable and in fear.
Witnesses said the situation escalated when military personnel allegedly attempted to disperse the crowd. The confrontation quickly turned fatal, triggering wider clashes that have since engulfed several neighbouring communities.

Sources from inside the affected areas told Daily Sun that tensions boiled over following the shootings, leading to a violent chain reaction. Communities reportedly affected by the ensuing crisis include Tingno, Suwa, Balaifi, Wami 1, Wami 2, and Waduku many of which were said to have been set ablaze as violence spread.
A local source, who spoke under anonymity due to safety concerns, said the death toll may be significantly higher than early reports suggest. “What we are seeing on the ground is far worse. The situation has spiralled out of control, and more bodies are still being discovered,” the source said.
As of press time, neither the Nigerian Army nor the Adamawa State Government has issued an official statement on the incident.
The atmosphere in Lamurde remains tense as residents flee in search of safety, while community leaders call for an urgent intervention to prevent further loss of lives.
