Army reinforces proficiency in personnel across Niger Delta

Officers and men of Nigerian Army, 6 Division Land Component Commander, Joint Task Force ( South-South), Operation Delta Safe, have commenced rigorous physical and tactical training activities that would enhance its combat readiness to any form of violence attacks or security challenges in the region.

The 5-Day Training exercise which commenced as from Monday with shooting range continued today with a 5KM Endurance race at the 3Battalion headquarters, Effurun, where sixty (60) soldiers drawn from the three (3) Brigades and the Garrison Command under the 6Division fully participated without recording any casualty.

Speaking with newsmen briefly before the commencement of the endurance race, the host Commander, 63 Brigade, Asaba, Brigadier General IB Buhari, described the training as an In-House routine exercises aimed at promoting healthy competition among various units under the Division.

He noted that apart from evaluating the physical alertness of soldiers under each Brigades, the training exercise would also encourage officers and men of these units to identify areas of their shortcomings while working together as a team and work hard towards improving on it.

According to him, “the essence of this week long training activities is not about build capacity in soldiers, as they have gotten the capability required but to promote a healthy competition among the various brigades and garrison for the purpose of enhancing proficiency”.

He urged the officers and men to be focused, skillful and creative in carrying out the task ahead of them throughout the duration of the training, noting that discipline also remains an integral part of the exercise.

At the end of the 5Kilometers endurance race, the 2Brigade emerged the winner, closely followed by 63Brigade and 16Brigade (2nd & 3rd) respectively while the Garrison who produced the best GetAway male and female athletes came last cumulatively due to teams sprint complacency.

The Chief Umpire, Lt. Col. AA Oloruntoba, who applauded the team for their superlative performance all through the duration of the exercise, Urging them to keep up the high spirit till the end.

With the shooting range and 5Kilometers endurance race already out of the training, he appealed to the soldiers to take the rest of the training exercises like swimming, map readings and obstacles crossing which usually climaxed the activities on Friday.
