Speaking before the pull out ceremony, which marked the end of their military career, Major General Adeyemi Adetayo, thanked the Federal Government for the opportunity to serve the country, saying the pullout ceremony would remain a day of nostalgia, emotion and gratitude, as well as a sense of fulfilment to them, especially as retirement is an inevitable end from service for every military personnel.
While thanking the Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja for ensuring that resources were adequately made available to the Nigerian Army Finance Corps for the pull out ceremony, Adetayo commended the Chief of Account and Budget for putting together the ceremony in their honour.
Earlier, the Chief of Army Staff had admonished officers of the Nigerian Army Finance Corps to efficiently and prudently manage the force’s resources for the good of the Army. Lagbaja said that at a time like this, all finance officers are to advise their commanders on financial best practices in a manner that will not undermine the Service.
He spoke during a Regimental Dinner Night organised in honour of former Chiefs of Army Accounts and Budget, as well as other retired senior officers of the Nigerian Army Finance Corps held at the Arakan Barracks, Apapa, Lagos.
Lagbaja said the Nigerian Army would continue to consult retired senior officers of the Finance Corps, even after disengagement from active service, in order to tap from their wealth of experience and expertise in financial management and budgeting.
His words: “It is on record that the officers we are celebrating this evening displayed unmatched courage and valour, both in their primary role as finance officers and secondary role, when in some situations, they have had to pick up arms and fight to defend our national interest.”
