Army Chief orders troops to crush bandits, terrorists in Sokoto

From Shafa’atu Suleiman, Sokoto

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, has ordered troops operating in Sokoto State to sustain pressure on bandits and terrorists hiding within the state and its environs, declaring that their activities would no longer be tolerated.

Shaibu gave the charge while addressing troops of the 248 Reconnaissance Battalion in Illela during an operational visit to formations and units under the 8 Division Area of Responsibility.

He urged troops of the 8 Division and the Joint Task Force, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, to maintain the current operational tempo and decisively eliminate criminal elements threatening peace in the region.

Commending the soldiers for their courage and professionalism, the Army Chief said their efforts had translated into improved security across parts of Sokoto State.

“I commend you for your courage, professionalism and the operational successes recorded so far. Your sacrifices have led to improved security in your Area of Responsibility,” Shaibu said.

He charged the troops to remain relentless in their operations, warning that Nigerians could no longer endure the excesses of bandits and terrorists.

“We must maintain the momentum to further annihilate them. We can no longer tolerate their excesses against the Nigerian people,” he added.

The Army Chief also assured officers and men of his commitment to their welfare, directing the construction of additional accommodation, medical and other essential facilities at the Illela Barracks to boost morale and operational effectiveness.

The visit, according to the Army High Command, was part of ongoing efforts to strengthen counter-terrorism operations and improve troop welfare across the North-West.
