Kebbi State Governor Dr Nasir Idris has donated N30 million to widows of fallen soldiers in the state.
Idris also allocated N15 million each to 1 Battalion, Duku Barracks, Birnin Kebbi, and 223 Army Zuru, as well as N10 million to orphans of the fallen soldiers, totalling N70 million during this year’s Armed Forces Remembrance Day held at Haliru Abdul Stadium, Birnin Kebbi.
While addressing members of the Nigerian Legion, soldiers, widows of fallen heroes, and other invited guests at the parade ground, Governor Idris acknowledged the sacrifices of the gallant soldiers who fought for the unity and survival of the country, emphasising the need to remember and support the families they left behind.

He added that the Kebbi State Government remains committed to supporting military personnel in the state.
Earlier, the President of the Military Widows Association of Nigeria, Mrs Asmau Kanoma, urged the governor to fulfil promises made to the association, particularly the scholarship for children of fallen soldiers and empowerment for widows. She stressed that many of the children often ask about their fathers.
“They always ask us where their fathers are, and we tell them they paid the supreme sacrifice for their nation. The absence of their fathers has created a lot of vacuum. Government scholarships would greatly help to fill their fathers’ roles and sponsor them to schools of their choice,” she said.
In her remarks, the State Chairperson of the Nigeria Army Soldiers Association, Kebbi State, Mrs Nampac Josephine, appealed to the governor to empower their members through skills acquisition and the distribution of tools such as sewing machines, grinding machines, and other equipment to help them become self-reliant.
