The Arewa Youth Assembly has restated its unwavering support and confidence in Nigeria’s Security Chiefs, cautioning against attempts by “unpatriotic elements” to politicise the nation’s security architecture.
Addressing journalists on Wednesday, the group’s Publicity Secretary, Aliyu Muhammad, said the calls by certain individuals for the removal of the Service Chiefs were not only baseless but also detrimental to the country’s collective fight against terrorism, banditry, and other forms of criminality.
According to the group, such agitations are “deliberate attempts by mischievous individuals to misrepresent national interest for personal and financial gain.” It warned that a sudden change in leadership within the armed forces would be a “reckless mistake” that could disrupt ongoing military operations and embolden insurgents.
Muhammad highlighted what he described as notable achievements under the current security leadership, including intensified counter-insurgency operations in the North-East, maritime patrols in the Niger Delta, and intelligence-led crackdowns on criminal networks nationwide.
Other gains listed include the successful neutralisation of Boko Haram and ISWAP commanders, clearance operations in bandit strongholds across Zamfara, Kaduna, and Niger states, improved civil-military relations through community outreach projects, and a significant reduction in crude oil theft.
The group also commended the rescue of kidnapped victims and the arrest of thousands of suspects across the country, stressing that these successes should be consolidated rather than undermined.
“We must support and encourage these gallant Security Chiefs who have continuously sacrificed their comfort, happiness, and even their lives for the peace and security of Nigerians,” Muhammad said.
The Arewa Youth Assembly urged Nigerians to remain united, patriotic, and supportive of ongoing security operations, rather than allowing partisan politics to dictate matters of national safety.
