The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has taken Governor Nyesom Wike to task of over his alleged plot to rig the pending rerun election.
The APC in a statement by the state Publicity Secretary, Mr. Chris  Finebone, described  the  allegation  as  distraction  and  diversionary  antics.
APC said  it  was  not  surprised   that  the governor  could levy such allegation.
“We  were not surprised  because, such tales coming from  the governor fit perfectly  well into his usual pastime of  trading on unfounded accusations, just to prepare the ground for launching electoral mischief.
“If indeed, the governor is serious about his discovery and he was referring to the APC, when he made reference to the opposition, then, we challenge him to make public his findings. The APC believes that it is mere smokescreen by the governor to divert attention from his readiness to deploy from his unholy book of electoral mischief and the APC is ready for him,” the statement said.
The  party, however  called on the Independent Electoral Commision (INEC) to  ensure that every aspect of the forthcoming rerun elections in Rivers State  was  transparent and credible.
When members of  the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) in the state  paid  him  a  solidarity visit  at the  Government  House, Wike  had   accused  INEC of  plotting  to rig the  forthcoming legislative rerun elections  slated for October, in  favour  of  the APC.
He claimed  to  be  in possession of   the  blueprint,  designed  by the INEC, with  a view  to rigging the October   legislative rerun elections. “If you see the blueprint with  which  the INEC wants to rig the elections, you  will  be shocked,” he  said.
He added: “However, we will not make the blueprint  public  as they will quickly produce another blueprint.  We will  continue  to  monitor  them.”
He said it was unfortunate  that there was an attempt  to  burn down Rivers State  just because  the powers that be want to compensate  the sponsor of the party.
