Governors under the auspices of All Progressives Congress (APC) Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) held its first meeting of the year in Abuja, but failed to honour their late member, Ondo state governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, who passed on recently.
The former Ondo state governor died in December 27, 2023 after a protracted illness, but the Forum however could not honour him while addressing newsmen after the marathon meeting or roll out any plan to pay condolence visit to his family.
Akeredolu, who has been replaced in the forum by his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, was onetime chairman of the South West Governors Forum and the Chairman Southern Governors Forum.
Though the South West Governors Forum had paid a condolences visit on the family, APC PGF could not disclose any plans to do so even when the Governor of Imo state, Hope Uzodinma, spoke to newsmen after the meeting.
Curiously, APC PGF has also reluctantly refused to issued a condolences message or press statement in honour of the late Akeredolu.
However, speaking with newsmen shortly after the meeting, Uzodimma disclosed that members of the Forum were strongly behind President Bola Tinubu’s action against the suspended Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Betta Edu.
The only perfect being we have observed and noticed is the Almighty God. The functions of goverment includes encouraging good things and good appointees and discouraging bad things and bad appointees.
“Like you just said, its just an allegation and in the wisdom of the President, it is being investigated, it is after the investigation is completed and the report made available to the government, that the government will now take final decision. So, don’t be in a hurry and don’t allow any sickness like anxiety cirrhosis.”
On other issues discussed at the meeting, Uzodinma said: “This is our first meeting since the beginning of this year and the meeting gave us the opportunity to review what is going on in the country and also agree on how best to continue to support our government and our party with a view to maximazing the benefits of current policies of our administration.
“The Progressive Governors Forum are united in supporting the APC administration ably led by our President Asiwaju Tinubu.
“We will continue to support him, we will take his policies to the grassroots and as sub-national leaders of our great party, ensure that our people come on the same page with the thinking of the government whose primary objective is to secure the country and provide adequate welfare to the good people of our dear country,” he noted.
