The All Progressives Congress (APC), on Friday, inaugurated the party’s National Campaign Council for the forthcoming February 21 Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council elections, charging committee members to mobilise massively to ensure outright victory for the party.

Speaking while inaugurating the committee at the party’s national headquarters in Abuja, APC National Chairman Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda described the FCT election as a strategic political contest that requires unity, coordination and effective grassroots mobilisation across all six area councils.

Yilwatda commended the 138-member campaign council for accepting the responsibility to serve, describing their appointment as a demonstration of trust and confidence in their loyalty to the party.

“This party is your home. We must open the space for inclusive participation and provide leadership that attracts Nigerians from every corner.

“The campaign council will focus on two major objectives — aggressive mobilisation of voters and deployment of well-articulated strategies to secure victory on election day.

“The composition of the campaign council reflects Nigeria’s geopolitical diversity, because Abuja is home to residents from all parts of the country,” he noted.

The APC chairman further assured that the ruling party will continue to witness an influx of members from other political parties, claiming that it is a clear sign of growing national acceptance and confidence in the APC.

He recalled that during the last general election, the party lost in one key area to the Social Democratic Party (SDP), stressing that the forthcoming area council election presents an opportunity to reclaim lost ground and consolidate the party’s dominance in the FCT.

He stated that leaders from the South-South, South-East, North-Central, North-East and North-West have been strategically assigned to mobilise residents from their respective regions who reside in the FCT.

“The FCT belongs to all Nigerians. If we execute our strategies effectively and work as one united party, victory is assured,” he said, expressing confidence that, with commitment from party leaders and supporters, the APC would emerge victorious in the forthcoming area council election.

Speaking further, he said: “The strength of the APC is not in the number of people decamping, but in the number of seats they will win. The party lost the FCT in the last election, but I am happy that most of the stakeholders who were in the opposition then have returned to the party.

“We will use all strategic means to mobilise for the party. The governors were chosen from each zone so as to ensure they mobilise the residents from their zones to win for the party.

“If we strategise properly and work towards it, the FCT is ours to win. I want to win all six area councils. We will move from house to house to ensure that we win the elections,” he said.

In his acceptance speech, the chairman of the campaign council and Kwara State governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, promised to deliver victory for the party.

He thanked the APC leadership, especially the national chairman, for the confidence reposed in the council, assuring that members would mobilise voters and strengthen grassroots structures to secure success at the polls.

“I want to commend President Bola Tinubu for his efforts in reshaping the country, including enhancing the security of lives and property, to ensure that the APC is not just a party of today but an organisation that will shape the country in the coming future.

“I want to assure you that the members will move from house to house to mobilise the residents to vote for the ruling party,” he said.
