A political support group, One Bayelsa Mandate Group, has passed a vote of Confidence in the Governor, Senator Douye Diri, and his Deputy, Dr. Peter Akpe, over the conduct of the State and National Assembly primaries in the state.
According to the group, the decision of the leadership of the state and the party to adopt the Direct Primary election or Consensus option has eliminated all forms of rancour and bitterness that hitherto occasioned the conduct of party primary elections in the past.
The group, comprising various youth leaders who are members of the APC drawn from the three senatorial districts of the state, in a statement signed by the conveners, Diekime Claudius Egba, and Ebiowei Timikenigh, noted that its findings during primaries showed a peaceful and rancour-free election.
According to the group, after evaluating the performance of the prosperity administration between 2020 to date, as well as the outcome of the APC Primary Elections held nationwide, with particular reference to Bayelsa State, it is safe to conclude that the Diri administration has ensured a consistent and steady decline in the myriad of security challenges that once bedevilled the state.
“The crime rate has reduced in the state, besides intermittent communal clashes. That there has been remarkable progress and consistency in terms of infrastructural development across the state. The most recent being the construction and installation of a 60-megawatt gas turbine.
“That the option of Direct Primary election or Consensus as adopted by the Bayelsa State Chapter of the APC eliminated all forms of rancour and bitterness that hitherto occasioned the conduct of party primary elections in the past.
“That His Excellency, Sen. Douye Diri and his Deputy, Pastor Peter Peretubo Akpe, demonstrated a high sense of responsibility by creating a level-playing field for all aspirants and stakeholders across the constituencies and senatorial districts.
“Consequently, the group unanimously passed a vote of confidence on the Prosperity administration for steering the ship of Bayelsa State to greater heights and urged Bayelsans to rally behind the Governor and his Deputy in the next circle of elections.”
