Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has expressed confidence that he will remain in charge of the club despite their 2-0 defeat to Chelsea in the Premier League on Saturday.
Carrick, who is under increasing pressure following United’s poor run of results, said he expects to lead the team in their next fixture against Roma in the Champions League on Tuesday.
Speaking to TNT Sports after the defeat at Stamford Bridge, the Englishman was asked whether he expected to remain in charge for the next game.
He simply replied, “Yes.”
The defeat extended United’s winless run to nine matches in all competitions, increasing concerns over Carrick’s position at the club.
Morgan Rogers opened the scoring for Chelsea in the second half before Cole Palmer converted a penalty to seal the victory after United defender Lisandro Martinez was sent off.
Reacting to the result, Carrick admitted that his side failed to maintain their first-half performance after the break.
“There is a lot of emotion, we’re a great football club, and we want to win football matches. The supporters come, make a lot of effort, pay a lot of money to watch us play.
“You can see from today the boys had the game in the right place and things have gone against us.
“Things have gone against us, and gone against us in a big way. Unravelled quickly. A lot of emotion right now,” he said.
United are now 17th in the Premier League table, just one point above the relegation zone.
