The First-Term Governors’ Forum of the All Progressives Congress (APC) under the Progressives Governors’ Forum (PGF) has declared its readiness to campaign for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election based on their achievements in various states without propaganda.
The forum also condemned xenophobic attacks in South Africa and urged Nigerians in the country to remain law-abiding citizens until peace returns.
Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State made the position of the forum known while reading a communique issued at the end of the closed-door meeting of the forum held in Birnin Kebbi on Tuesday.
He said: “We also express concern over reported attacks, killings and hostility directed at Nigerians and other African nationals in South Africa. While we respect the sovereignty of the Republic of South Africa and the brotherly relations between our two countries, we condemn all forms of xenophobia, mob violence, unlawful killings and abuse of foreign nationals anywhere in the world.
“We urge the appropriate authorities to investigate such incidents transparently, protect law-abiding Nigerians and other African residents, and ensure justice in accordance with law and diplomatic norms.”
Idris noted that Nigeria and South Africa are important nations on the continent, adding that the relationship between the two countries should be anchored on mutual respect.
“Nigeria and South Africa are important African nations and relationship must be continued by mutual respect, protection of citizens, justice, accountability and shared destiny.”
While making their position known on the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Idris said they had resolved to support the President through their performances in their various states without propaganda.
“We recognize that our support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu must be match by performance in our states. We shall not merely ask Nigerians to support the President, we shall give Nigerians reasons to believe by working harder to deliver visible results and ensuring that Federal reforms translated into local benefits.
“We therefore committed ourselves to radical actions on agriculture and food security in rural areas, infrastructure, education, health care, youth and empowerment, security collaboration, even access to investment, promotion of revenue generations, jobs creation and transparency governance.”
He said the forum commended President Tinubu for taking difficult decisions in the national interest for a greater future.
“We also urge federal government to continue expanding intervention that would directly reduced hardship especially food production, transportation, small businesses, rural livelihood, energy and social protection and security.
“We resolved that our re-election efforts shall be anchor by performances, not propaganda service, not sentiment, unity not division and results not noise. We shall go back to our people, present our records, listen to their concerns, correct our shortcomings and seek their continued trust in the interest of stability.
“We believe that the task before Nigerians is bigger than one’s elections. It is about the future of our country. It is about protection of democracy, securing our communities, feeding our people, creating jobs for our youths and ensuring that the sacrifice of today becomes the prosperity of tomorrow.”
