A governorship caucus meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano state, Monday night, ended up in a near-fight between the Deputy Governorship candidate of the party, Murtala Sule Garo and the House Majority Leader, Alhassan Ado Doguwa.

The meeting, held at the Bompai residence of the flag bearer, Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, was aimed at mapping out strategies ahead of the general elections.

In attendance at the meeting were the Chairman of the party, Abdullahi Abbas Sanusi, Secretary of the party, Zakari Sarina, former Secretary to the State Government, Rabiu Suleiman Bichi, Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Ibrahim Hamisu Chidari and several others.

A section of the party insisted that situation degenerated into an ugly confrontation after the House Majority Leader appeared at the meeting uninvited and sought to know why the members of the National Assembly of the party in the state were excluded from an important party caucus meeting.

In a press briefing at his residence, the Majority Leader denied engaging in a fight with the deputy governorship candidate, saying the allegation was untrue.

According to him, he went to the venue of the meeting on the invitation of the state party chairman, Abbas Abdullahi Sanusi and not as an uninvited guest as claimed by his detractors.

The Majority Leader also explained that upon his arrival at the meeting, he jokingly inquired from the attendees why the entire national assembly members from the state were excluded from the meeting, adding that no sooner did he sought for an answer than the deputy governorship candidate interjected negatively and abusively to his inquiry

He said the party’s running mate, in his outburst, abused his father and his family, a situation which resulted in the exchange of unpleasant words between them.

He denied assaulting the party’s running mate as alleged, accusing him of being the aggressor.
“As Garo furiously surged to grab my collar; he slipped down and fell on broken pieces of mug that had earlier shaken and fallen from the table, which injured him on his hand.

Ado explained that there was no way he would have engaged in a fight with his fellow party man given his positions as a highly respected traditional title holder in Rano Emirate and a very senior member of the APC at the state and the national level.

He, however, called attention to the fact that his detractors were destroying his banners across the metropolitan area of the state.

“My banners are being destroyed as I speak; I am being deliberately embarrassed by these people. I don’t deserve all this. I am a leader of the party at the state and national level..if they continue like this, I will be force to pay them back in their own coin” he warned.

Ado appealed to the state Governor and father of the party, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, to hurriedly takeover the affairs of the party as they approach the 2023 elections, fearing that the party was faced with monumental challenges, which could only be surmounted if all members worked together and in good spirit.
