Apapa begins 5-day robotics training for teachers

Apapa Local Government has started a five-day robotics technology education training workshop for teachers in primary schools in Apapa.

Speaking during the opening ceremony at the council hall, the Chairman, Idowu Adejumoke Senbanjo, said the event was a major landmark in the country’s educational development.

He said six months ago, the council commissioned the first Robotics Education Centre in Ladi Lak Primary School, Apapa through the support of an old student of the school, Peter Ibru.

“Today we are witnessing a further step in entrenching globally relevant educational delivery in our primary school sector which is in line with our Ports City Masterplan which took effect at the inception of this administration.

“Kudos must be given to Excellerate Business School that initiated the robotics education project in partnership with the council having obtained the necessary approvals from the State Basic Education Board (SUBEB).

“I must say the world is now a global village as such any county that is not preparing its children for the expectations of the 4th industrial revolution will find itself to blamed,” she said.

She said the council recognises the need to groom children to be future ready by inculcating in them 21st century skills and exposure hence the integration of robotics education as part of the co-curricular activities in primary schools.

To the teachers that are being trained in robotics, she said: “See yourselves as champions of the new wave of globalisation and technologically driven innovative education. The technology transfer to our pupils in our primary schools will help to achieve our collective vision of preparing these children for the future of work. Please ensure the impact of the skills to be acquired is felt and the training is put to maximum use.”
