From Tony Osauzo, Benin
Ahead of the inauguration today of Senator Monday Okpebholo as the 6th civilian governor of Edo since the creation of the state in August 27, 1991, the feeling in the air is that of anxiety and anticipation.
As of yesterday evening, members of the Inauguration Committee set up by the All Progressives Congress (APC), were in a frenzy trying to put the finishing touches to all aspects of their assignment to ensure a hitch-free Inauguration exercise.
The Governor-elect, Senator Monday Okpebholo carried out dress rehearsal at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium ahead of his inauguration.
He will be sworn in along with his deputy, Dennis Idahosa at the Stadium by the Chief Judge of the state, Hon. Justice Daniel Iyobosa Okungbowa.
By Monday morning, security had been beefed up around the Stadium with stern-looking military men and women on guard duty, just as major roads in Benin City are adorned with posters of the Governor-elect and his deputy ahead of today’s inauguration exercise.
Yesterday, the APC Transition Committee presented its report to the Governor-elect, setting the stage for today’s inauguration.
