Anti-child abuse campaign hits Imo community markets

Anti-child

From Stanley Uzoaru, Owerri

A human rights organisation, Stand For Humanity Foundation, has taken its awareness campaign against child abuse, child marriage and drug abuse to some rural markets in Imo State.

The group, led by its Founder and Executive Director, Chidiebube Okeoma, visited Affor Enyiogugu Market in Aboh Mbaise Local Government Area and Mission Market in Emekuku community, Owerri North Local Government Area, where it sensitised traders to the legal consequences of child abuse and child marriage.

At Affor Enyiogugu Market, Okeoma, who is also a journalist, said child abuse was culturally, legally and globally prohibited. He urged people to treat children in their care with love rather than torture.

He advised guardians who could no longer tolerate the shortcomings of children in their care to return them to their biological parents rather than subjecting them to abuse.

At Mission Market in Emekuku, Okeoma said the foundation’s campaign against child abuse was yielding positive results.

Pastor (Mrs) Elizabeth Chibueze, who also spoke, said God condemned child abuse, stressing that children were dear to Him. She warned that those who maltreated children, particularly orphans, risked God’s wrath.
