Barely 24 hours after two people were beheaded in the Effium community, Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State by suspected warlords, another two people have been beheaded in the Igede village of the community.
Early Sunday morning, two people were beheaded in Ikachi village in the community, seven people were reportedly abducted with houses razed by the warriors during their invasion of the village that Sunday morning.
As the people of the area were mourning the attack and killings, two people were also beheaded in Igede village. The two people are 79- year-old Paul Idu and 47-year-old Elizabeth Amos Agbudu, while the whereabouts of 10-year-old Master Ekene Ukwo was still unknown. Three houses were reportedly razed during the invasion of the suspected warlords in the Igede village.
The natives of Effium in the community have called on President Bola Tinubu and Governor Francis Nwifuru to note the continuous killings, burning of houses and kidnapping of innocent people by the suspected warlords.
President General, Effiium Autonomous community, Dr. James Agena, disclosed that the warlords invaded the community by 12:20am in the morning, killed two people, kidnapped one, burnt three houses and left many injured. He noted that the latest incident was the third in the series of coordinated attacks on Effium natives by suspected warriors.
He said: “Your Excellency Sir, once again, Ezza warriors, this morning, at about 12:20am, attacked Igede village in the Akparata area of Effium, killed and beheaded 70-year-old man, Mr Paul Idu, and 47-year-old woman, Mrs Elizabeth Amos Agbudu, while the whereabouts of 10-year- old Master Ekene Ukwo is still unknown, coupled with the burning down of three houses by these evil men.
“This latest attack is the third in a series of coordinated attacks on Effium natives by Ezza warriors within a space of one week. However, to our chagrin, the government has not issued any official statement condemning these incessant attacks on Effium people. Once again, we call on the government of Ebonyi State, the security agencies and, indeed, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to protect the peace loving Effium natives.
“We desire/deserve peace in our ancestral home. The Ebonyi State government should note that the agenda of the Ezza people is to derail the peace process and continue in their evil ethnic cleansing agenda”.
The state Police Spokesperson, DSP Ukandu Joshua, confirmed the attack. He noted that there were military and mobile police units stationed in the community to protect the people.
