The Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion has honoured the former General Editor of Newswatch Magazine, Dr Jossy Nkwocha with a distinguished service award at a four-day conference for the church’s communicators and media officers.
Dr Nkwocha, who is also the Diocesan Communicator of the Evo Diocese was honoured for serving as chairman of the conference central planning committee for three years, from 2024 to 2026.
The plaque was presented to him on Wednesday, June 24, by the Dean, Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, Most Rev Blessing Enyindah, who represented the Primate, Most Rev Henry Ndukuba.
A specialist in reputation management and communication, Dr Nkwocha dedicated the award to the Bishop of Evo Diocese, Rt. Rev Innocent Ordu, who appointed him Diocesan Communicator, from where he was picked to chair the 2024 conference.
He also dedicated the award to the Bishop of his home Diocese of Egbu, Rt Rev Enyinnaya Okorafor, whose predecessor, Rt. Rev Emmanuel Iheagwam, knighted him in 2004.
Dr Nkwocha also expressed appreciation to all members of the planning committee for their cooperations, which according to him, made their work very fruitful.
“All the three conferences we organised were judged very successful. Special appreciation to the Director of Communication, Venerable Raphael Aderinwale; the General Manager Advent Cable Network TV, Korede Akintunde, who acted as director, while I chaired the committee in 2024 and 2025; Mrs Mojisola Olatinwo, our Secretary; the LOC chairman, Venerable Ikechukwu Ihemtuge and others.
“I am happy that one of our members, Venerable Barnabas Bulus from the Diocese of Kaduna, has been appointed to take over from me.
“I sincerely appreciate my fellow delegates from the Diocese of Evo, Venerable Olufemi Igbamerun and James Ebebeinwe, as well as all our delegates from the Niger Delta Province, especially Sir Sampson Fibresima of the Niger Delta Diocese and Venerable Chinemerem Eleeh of the Diocese of Ikwerre,” he said.
Speaking at the conference, themed, ‘The Watchman’s Trumpet, the future of the great commission,” Archbishop Enyindah; the host Bishop, Rt Rev’d Owen Nwokolo; the Bishop of the Diocese of Amichi,
Rt Rev Ephraim Ikeakor and Venerable Ifeanyi Aniagboso of the Niger Delta Diocese, noted that the media have a great role to play in propagating the gospel of Jesus Christ in a world that is fast degenerating in sinfulness, injustice and depravity.
A communique at the end of the conference urged all diocesan communicators and media officers to see themselves as Christ ambassadors and use whatever equipment they have as trumpets to disseminate the gospel.
In his closing remarks, Venerable Aderinwale expressed gratitude to God for a very successful conference and to the Diocese on the Niger for their wonderful hospitality.
A senior journalist and convener of the Diamond Award for Media Excellence, Lanre Idowu, who now doubles as the Diocesan Communicator in Lagos described the conference as a big success.
