The Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) has elected four new bishops to oversee the affairs of the dioceses of Makurdi, Uyo, Ekiti Oke and Awori.
A statement signed by the Director of Communications of the Church of Nigeria, Ven. Raphael Aderinwale indicated that Primate of the Church of Nigeria, The Most Rev. Henry Ndukuba, announced the elections on Thursday at the close of the Episcopal Synod held during the Advance Episcopal Consultation at Our Saviour’s Chapel, University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The newly elected bishops are Ven. Dr. Godwin Tersoo Simon Yakela, Bishop-elect of Makurdi Diocese; Ven. Dr. Kingsley Ogbonda, Bishop-elect of Uyo Diocese; Ven. Dr. Julius Oyediran, Bishop-elect of Ekiti Oke Diocese; and Ven. Dr. Olayemi Fatusi, Bishop-elect of Awori Diocese.
The Primate confirmed that the elections followed what he described as prayerful deliberations by members of the Episcopal Synod.
He disclosed that the bishops-elect would be consecrated during the General Synod of the Church of Nigeria, scheduled to hold later this year in the Diocese of Remo.
Ndukuba described the election of the four clerics as another milestone in the life and mission of the Church, expressing confidence in their ability to provide spiritual leadership in their respective dioceses.
He said the bishops-elect would be entrusted with the responsibility of shepherding God’s people, advancing evangelism and strengthening the Anglican Communion within their jurisdictions.
The Primate also called on members of the Church to pray for the bishops-elect, asking God to grant them wisdom, strength, good health, humility and the grace to faithfully discharge the responsibilities of their new offices.
