MAYOR of Orumba South Local Government Area, Anambra State, Shedrack Azubuike, has reaffirmed his administration’s zero-tolerance policy for unauthorised gatherings after halting an unapproved political campaign at St. Augustine’s Primary School, Umunze yesterday.
The intervention followed reports of a political rally within the school premises during official hours without clearance from the local government authority.
Azubuike stormed the venue and ordered immediate dismantling of canopies belonging to the campaign team of the APC who were expected to host their governorship candidate, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, at the venue. He directed the organisers to vacate the area pending the presentation of an official clearance letter.
Mayor Azubuike said the activity violated a directive issued on August 14, which prohibits political, religious or social events in public and private schools within the state during school hours.
He noted that the noise and disruption from such gatherings interferes with teaching and learning in the school.
