The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed that its personnel neutralised two gunmen suspected to be members of the criminal gang that ran riot in Uga roundabout and killed two policemen in the attack.
Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Aderemi Adeoye, disclosed that two members of the criminal gang that killed two police personnel and kidnapped other motorists last Thursday were fatally wounded during a sting operation.
Adeoye said the gang members were killed during a raid on their camp in Ogboji in Orumba South Local Government Area, on Sunday, by security personnel following a credible intelligence. He disclosed that a 51-year-old man suspected to be a kidnap victim was rescued in the process and a Lexus SUV recovered.
The police commissioner also said other items recovered from the criminals were four Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), two Pump Action rifles and 16 live cartridges, adding that the IEDs had been defused in accordance with safety measures.
“Two insurgents were killed, four IEDs were recovered and defused. Two pump action guns and 16 live cartridges were recovered and a Lexus SUV was recovered, while a 51-year-old kidnap victim was rescued”.
Adeoye further said the manhunt for the fleeing assailants and every criminal element in the state remains on course.
Two police personnel were killed at Uga roundabout, Aguata Local Government Area, on December 29, 2023, while another unconfirmed number of motorists were allegedly kidnapped during the ensuing pandemonium.
