National President of the Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria, AMSLN, Dr. Uche Odionyenma, expressed happiness over the decision of the Kebbi State Governor, Dr Nasir Idris, to create the Department of Medical Laboratory Services under the state’s Health ministry.
He characterized the decision as a culmination of the long held desire of medical laboratory scientists practicing at the subnational level of political governance. He added that the decision of the state governor is further demonstration of the implementation of the Renewed Hope Agenda of the President Bola Tinubu administration. He urged other state governors to follow in the footsteps of the Kebbi State governor.
His words: “The Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria wishes to appreciate the Governor of Kebbi State for creation of the Department of Medical Laboratory Services at the State Ministry of Health
“This is a welcome development as it ensures the full and effective implementation of our scheme of services. This creation will ensure delivery of quality, effective and regulated Medical Laboratory services for the good people of Kebbi State as well as maximize the efficiency of the laboratory workforce thus ensuring global best practices.
Similarly reacting to news of creation of the new department, Mr Izuchi Ekeh, Managing Director of ZLES Global Limited, a leading medical diagnostics equipment company, said: “This is a laudable achievement by the Kebbi State governor as quality laboratory services are crucial for accurate diagnosis, patient safety, and staff protection.
“Unfortunately, inadequate laboratory services in Nigeria lead to medical tourism. At ZLES Global Limited, we aim to bridge this gap by supporting and providing the newly established department with world-class laboratory services through delivering standard laboratory equipment, reagents, consumables and disposables.”
He further explained that his organization has been holding training sessions for medical laboratory professionals to expose them to global best practices.
