A leading governorship aspirant on the platform of the Africa Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kano State, Ibrahim Ali Amin, has dismissed reports alleging that Ibrahim Khalil had been endorsed as the party’s governorship candidate for the 2027 general elections.

In a statement, yesterday, by his media team, Amin described the claims as false and urged party members and the public to disregard what he termed “purported endorsement” of Khalil.

The statement insisted that the ADC did not conduct any gubernatorial primary election at any level in Kano State where Khalil was selected or declared as the party’s flag bearer.

It maintained that what took place at the national level was a consensus meeting held in Abuja, attended by both aspirants, Ibrahim Ali Amin and Ibrahim Khalil, aimed at resolving internal disagreements and building unity within the party.

According to the statement, the meeting resolved that both aspirants should cooperate and await the final decision of the party’s national leadership on the emergence of a governorship candidate for Kano State.

“We are loyal party members. We will not do anything that will undermine the integrity of the consensus committee or our great party. We are waiting for the decision of the national leadership,” the statement read.

The media team also expressed surprise that Khalil would participate in the consensus arrangement if, as claimed by some groups, he had already been endorsed or declared winner of a primary election.

It further questioned the legitimacy of the group describing itself as “ADC stakeholders,” which had reportedly announced Khalil as the party’s candidate following an alleged primary election held on May 22, 2026, where he was said to have polled 55,851 votes against Amin’s 4,000 votes.

The statement also referenced a leadership dispute within the party, noting that the chairman of the group making the claim, Sulaiman Muhammad-Sabo, was no longer recognised in that capacity following a Federal High Court judgment affecting the party’s leadership structure.

It added that the party was expected to set up a caretaker committee to manage ongoing reconciliation and nomination processes ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Reaffirming his stance, Amin pledged loyalty to the party and expressed confidence in its national leadership to resolve all outstanding issues and determine the authentic governorship candidate for Kano State.

The development highlights growing tensions within the ADC in Kano over the party’s governorship ticket as internal consultations and legal interpretations of leadership structures continue to generate controversy.
