The last has not been heard of the new born baby whose sensory organs were allegedly removed at a private hospital in Asaba, Delta State, as the family, yesterday, accused the police of attempting to deny them justice.
It was gathered that the deceased baby was brought to the hospital shortly after delivery at another location, but was confirmed dead after about 11 days in an incubator at the said hospital. However, when the parents came to claim the dead infant’s body, they alleged that the eyes and ears had been removed.
Speaking in Asaba, 36-year-old father of the deceased, Promise John, appealed to the police not to exonerate the hospital from the activities of some nurses.
He alleged that the police might have been compromised by the hospital management, hence, it was not joined in the suit as defendants like the employees.
“There is an attempt to deny us justice; the police should charge the hospital as well. As I speak to you now, the three nurses who were arrested, have been released,” he alleged.
Also speaking, a human rights activist, Comrade Victor Ojei, accused the police of being biased in the matter. Ojei said the police were not only attempting to exonerate the hospital but, also, deliberately charged the case to a court of no jurisdiction.
He called on the leadership of Nigeria Medical Association, the Attorney General of Delta State, National Human Rights Commission, among other stakeholders in Nigeria, to see to it that justice prevails.
Reacting to the allegations, Public Relations Officer of the state Police Command, DSP Bright Edafe, stated that the suspects have been charged to court.
