Alkali returns as Nasarawa FA boss

Mohammed Alkali has been re-elected as the Chairman of the Nasarawa Football Association (FA) after a keenly contested election held on Saturday at Kenebeh event hall, Garaku, Kokona Local Government Council in Nasarawa state. Alkali emerged victorious with a total of 10 votes, narrowly defeating his closest rival, Haliru Ibrahim, who secured 6 votes. The election saw one vote declared voided as the fingerprint on the ballot crossed the line therefore contravening the rule on vote validation as set by the electoral committee.

The atmosphere was tense as the two candidates vied for the prestigious position, each presenting their vision and plans for the development of football in the State.

Alkali, who previously held the position of chairman, ran on a platform of continuity and progress. During his previous tenure, he introduced several initiatives that aimed to improve grassroots football development and foster talent identification.

Alkali’s track record and wealth of experience in football administration played a significant role in swaying voters in his favor.

Ibrahim, on the other hand, campaigned on a platform of change and promised to bring fresh ideas to the Nasarawa FA. Ibrahim, a prominent figure in the local football community gained support from some sections of the electorate who were eager for a new direction.

Speaking after his victory, Alkali expressed gratitude to the voters for the confidence reposed in him and promised to build on the achievements of his previous tenure. He emphasized his commitment to promoting grassroot football, improving infrastructure, and enhancing the overall football development in Nasarawa State.

In his speech, chairman of  Kokona Local Government Council Hon. Auwal Adamu who was also re-elected as board member of the Nasarawa FA commended the electoral committee for conducting a free, fair and credible election, describing his re-election to the board is a divine intervention.

“ I want to say it is the will of God that made us to come back. The delegates were fantastic and I believe it was God that made it possible to convince them to vote for us,” he said.
