Alban Chimelu Okeke of Umuanaeke Enugu-Umuabi, former railway worker known for his exploits and sacrifices in pursuit of peace in his community, will be buried on Saturday at his country home. He was 93.

According to his first son, Ignatius Afam Okeke, wake keep will be held at the Okeke’s country home, Umuanaeke, Enugu Amaju Umuabi today. Paying tributes to the late nonagenarian, Senate Minority Whip, Ostia Ngwu, described Okeke as a man who influenced his community positively by standing for the truth and doing whatever it took for peace and unity among his people. He also hailed him for his devotion for his family.

Ngwu communicated his condolences in a letter he personally signed and addressed to one of the sons of Okeke, Victor Okechukwu Okeke. The letter read in part: “On behalf of the people of Enugu West senatorial district, I write to convey our heartfelt condolences on the death of your dearly beloved father, Alban C. (Ogbuefi Ezeomeogo I of Umuabi Udi).” “Indeed, he lived an inspirational life that positively impacted his society…”

Hyacinth Okechukwu Aneke, member of Enugu State House of Assembly representing Udi South constituency also showered encomium at the late sage.

“He was known for his honesty, hard work and love for peace and unity. It was not about money but cherished virtue and values he displayed without caring whose ox is gored. I commiserate with the family,” he said.
