Alaafin commends Aare Tomori Williams, for upholding Yoruba heritage

His Imperial Majesty, IOba Abimbola Akeem Owoade I, the Alaafin of Oyo, has showered praises on the Onikoyi of Yorubaland, Aare Tomori Williams, describing him as a loyal and distinguished chief who continues to uphold the legacy of the Yoruba monarchy.

The monarch spoke during a recent courtesy visit he and his wife, Olori Abiwunmi, paid to Aare Williams at his palatial office in Olaleye Newtown, Lagos.

Oba Owoade commended the Onikoyi for his dedication, noting that he has consistently lived up to expectations as one of the most notable chiefs in the Alaafin’s cabinet.

“I came to Lagos and thought it was an opportunity to see one of my sons, the Aare Onikoyi of Yorubaland, Aare Tomori Williams. It’s a pleasure seeing him doing very well, and I am glad to be here today,” the monarch said.

Oba Owoade also emphasized the importance of unity among Yoruba leaders and traditional institutions, noting that collaboration among chiefs is essential for the continued progress of the Yoruba Kingdom.

“As a king, I have always worked in collaboration with my chiefs. I believe that when we work together, we can push the Yoruba race forward and make the kingdom a better place,” he added.

In his remarks, Aare Williams described the royal visit as historic and deeply symbolic, saying it reaffirmed the long-standing relationship between the Alaafin and his high-ranking chiefs.

“This visit is historic and significant. It strengthens the bond between His Imperial Majesty and members of his cabinet, including myself. It also provides an opportunity to reaffirm my loyalty and continued support for his reign,” Aare Williams stated.

He commended the Alaafin for his exemplary leadership and expressed appreciation for the royal recognition, describing the visit as a gesture of trust and reassurance of the monarch’s continued guidance.

Aare Williams further highlighted the traditional importance of his title, noting that the Aare Onikoyi is the foremost among all Onikoyi across the world and serves as the head of the ancient war clan in the Yoruba race — a lineage celebrated for its valor during the old Oyo Empire.

He added that the Alaafin’s visit also reflected his commitment to maintaining close ties with his chiefs and ensuring continued unity within the Yoruba nation.
