Akwanga set to welcome new mini stadium, boosting sports infrastructure – NFF

Nasarawa State’s Akwanga region anticipates the commissioning of a mini-stadium, signaling a milestone in the region’s sports infrastructure development, as confirmed by the Nigeria Football Federation President, Ibrahim Gusau.

Gusau made the announcement yesterday following the culmination of the 2024 Nasarawa North Football Competition at Wamba, Akwanga, Nasarawa state, which witnessed a tense final match between Future International FC and Akwanga Selected FC.

“We have received unwavering support from the governor of Nasarawa state in our football development endeavors. As a testament to this, we are pleased to announce the impending commissioning of a mini-stadium in Akwanga,” Gusau stated to journalist.

Supporting Gusau’s statement, Jafaru Ango, the Nasarawa state Commissioner for Sports, affirmed that the state government has commenced work on the mini-stadium over the past three months. However, the approval for the land on which the stadium will be erected is pending.

Daily Sun reports that In a tightly contested final, Future International FC emerged victorious, clinching a 5-4 win on penalties following a goalless regulation time against Akwanga Selected FC.

The champions, Future International FC, are set to receive N680,000 in prize money, while the runners-up, Akwanga Selected, will pocket N420,000. Additionally, the bronze-winning team, Leopard Academy, also from Akwanga, will be awarded N250,000.

Honourable Silas Agara, the tournament sponsor, expressed his commitment to making the competition an annual event. He also announced plans to select a team from the tournament to participate in the Nigeria Nationwide League (NLO) next season.

He further said the development marks a significant stride in the promotion of football and sports development within Nasarawa state and underscores the dedication to nurturing sporting talent in the region.
