Akor Adams urges immediate reset of Nigerian football

Akor Adams has called for a comprehensive overhaul of Nigerian football following the Super Eagles’ failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Sevilla forward said the country must move quickly from disappointment to action, warning that another World Cup absence would have far-reaching consequences for Nigerian football.

“We are motivated to make sure we don’t disappoint ourselves and Nigerians again,” Adams said.“Another miss would take a very big toll on Nigerian football. The preparation starts now it starts every day leading up to 2030.”

Nigeria’s failure to qualify for the 2026 tournament means the Super Eagles will miss consecutive World Cups for the first time in decades, a stark contrast to the nation’s proud football tradition since its debut at the 1994 finals.

Adams said the setback should serve as a turning point, with all stakeholders accepting responsibility for rebuilding the national team.

According to him, the task goes beyond the players and coaching crew, requiring alignment between the squad, technical bench and the Nigeria Football Federation.

He believes the upcoming Unity Cup in London offers the perfect platform to begin that rebuilding process.

Nigeria will face Jamaica, India and Zimbabwe in the invitational tournament, which Adams sees as an opportunity to restore confidence and establish a fresh direction for the Super Eagles.

For a nation with Nigeria’s football pedigree, Adams insists there is no time to waste. The rebuilding must begin now.
