The Nigerian Air Force (NAF), on Monday, commenced the General Court Martial of Air Craft Man (ACM) Kalu Bernard who shot and killed Air Craft Woman (ACW) Oladipupo Sholape in a shooting incident at the NAF Base in Makurdi, the Benue State Capital.
Recall that on Sunday, March 12, 2017, Kalu whose romantic affair with Oladipupo had crumbled was said to have gone to the apartment of his estranged lover, and shot and killed her point blank on the suspicion that she had dumped him for another man.
President of the court, Gp. Capt. Elisha Bindul read the six counts charges of Murder, house breaking, personation, attempt to commit murder, failure to perform military duties and losing service property to the accused.
Bindul explained that the accused, a Regular Airman of the 533 Central Armament Depot, NAF Base, Makurdi was charged with murder in that “He, at Corporals quarters on 12 march, 2017 at about 0530 hours, shot ACW Oladipupo with an intention to cause her death.”
He further read that the accused was charged with losing service property in that he (Accused) at Corporal and Below Quarters, compound 9 on the said date lost three life rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition out of 40 life ammunition issued to him for base defence duty.
In his plea, the accused pleaded not guilty to all the charges and his counsel, Barr. Ada Tsobaza who noted that the charge sheets were only made available to him on Sunday said the would need more time to prepare to enter defence and applied for adjournment.
Prosecution did not object to the adjournment and the court President, Gp. Capt. Bindul adjourned the case till June 2, 2017 for commencement of hearing.
